Over six decades ago, in the heart of Arlington, Washington, a small café opened its doors with nothing more than a warm kitchen, an honest menu, and a deep belief in the power of a good meal shared among neighbors. That café was the Blue Bird — and it was the dream of Merle and Florence Peper.
Merle and Florence weren't restaurateurs by trade. They were simply two people who believed that a community deserved a place to gather — somewhere the coffee was always hot, the portions were generous, and every face that walked through the door was welcomed like family.

Merle and Florence Peper open the Blue Bird Café in downtown Arlington, serving breakfast and lunch to locals who quickly make it their daily ritual.
